Deadly 5.3 Mw earthquake in southern Spain


At least 8 people have been killed by two earthquakes in Lorca, Murcia (southern Spain). The first earthquake (4.5 Mw) happened at 17.05 local time (15.05), and the second, of 5.3 Mw, happened at 18.47 local time (16.47 UTC).
The 5.3 Mw quake has been reported by USGS to be quite shallow (1 km deep) and has occurred at some 160 southewest of Murcia. This is the most serious earthaquake in Spain in the last half century.
